Self-Care for Men

Whether it’s busy working days, hectic family routines or a full schedule, it can be difficult to take time for yourself. Here are a few self-care ideas that will leave you feeling peaceful and relaxed over the busy festive period.

Face Mask

A good skincare routine is critical for everyone, and thanks to the huge variety of products available, you can find one that fits into your routine. Face masks are great to deeply cleanse your skin and leave it feeling clean, hydrated and healthy. You can find any mask to treat your skin- whether you’re concerned about acne, dryness or aging, and choose between different textures and ingredients. Taking 10 minutes at the end of your day to do something for yourself can help you relax and wind down, and your skin will also reap the benefits.

Books

Whether you’re an avid reader, audiobook listener, or enjoy journaling, books can be a great self-care tool. Using screens before you sleep can interfere with your sleep routine, so winding down with a book is the perfect alternative. There are many benefits to reading and journaling, including boosting creativity and imagination, and just plain old enjoyment. If you don’t like reading or can’t seem to settle, listening to an audiobook or podcast is another great idea, as you can listen to these on the go, or whilst lying in bed.

Moving Your Body

Exercise may feel like a chore, but by moving your body just a little each day, you can gain huge benefits. Whether this is taking a walk or run, stretching or doing some yoga, moving stimulates the body’s blood flow, improving things like mood and concentration. Taking a moment to sit and meditate or breathe fresh air can be a perfect break-time activity, and make you feel better than just sitting scrolling on the phone.

Inside Out

Taking care of your body and its processes is also a form of self-care. Listening to what your body tells you and resting when you need to is very important, as are regular health check-ups. Testosterone deficiency is an issue that affects a lot of men, but testosterone replacement therapy can help with this. Getting yourself tested if you feel you are experiencing symptoms is very important, as hormones are responsible for many of the body’s processes. Looking after yourself is not just a surface task but goes deeper into caring for your whole body and getting frequent checks from your doctor.

Scents

Certain scents can affect your mood, so investing in candles, diffusers or room sprays is a great, quick way to practice some self-care. For example, lavender can help you to relax and get ready for sleep, so why not burn a scented candle whilst you read before bed? Find a scent you love and treat yourself to it. With oils, candles and even linen sprays available, there are plenty of ways you can include this little bit of luxury in your daily routine.

Taking time for yourself is incredibly important, from skincare to regular visits to the doctor. These are a couple of ways you can practice self-care and is not an exhaustive list. Find things that work well for you, work with your routine and make you feel good- there are plenty of things you can add to your day to make it feel that little bit more relaxing.
