Help on hand for parents and carers throughout the pandemic

Free guides for parents and children as pressure on wellbeing increases

With another national lockdown and school closures, the weighty responsibility of the wellbeing and health of many young people is again being borne by parents and carers across the UK. As young people’s mental health is suffering, they often don’t know where to turn.

Despite their best efforts, parents and carers aren’t always equipped with the training or know-how that professionals in a school setting are.

With children and young people spending more time confined at home, it has become harder than ever for schools to identify potential wellbeing issues and provide the support that is desperately needed.

To help to support parents and carers and whole school communities, Tes have made all its EduSafe guides – usually only available to subscribers of their safeguarding and duty of care training package, powered by EduCare – available for free.

These guides have been written especially for parents and carers, and some are also written for use by children and young people themselves. All of them are available online for schools to download and share with their school communities.

They will help schools to:

Give parents and carers a greater understanding of sensitive topics to help support their children

Provide children and young people with advice and guidance they can trust – written by experts with lots of links for further support

Support children and young people who are struggling and might not otherwise ask for help

By reading and using these guides, the whole school community should feel more confident in helping pupils in the following areas:

mental health
low mood and depression
anxiety
loneliness
digital resilience

Dawn Jotham, Education Lead Educare (part of Tes) said: “Schools can share these resources with their school communities at a time when we all need to be more equipped in these topics for the wellbeing of our children and young people. By using these resources schools can be confident that the information is high quality, reliable and the right pitch for parents and carers. By sharing this knowledge, children and young people can be cared for in a more holistic way during this challenging time.”
