Your garden should be one of the most relaxing parts of your property. The only problem is that because you’re outside, the space can often feel a lot less private than the rest of your home. Here are some ways you can add some more privacy to your garden:

Get a better fence

One of the best and most obvious ways to add privacy to your back garden is to improve the fencing that surrounds your garden. After all, this is the device that separates the boundaries between your garden and your neighbour’s garden. You want to make sure you get these fences at the perfect height. Buy one that is too short, and your neighbours will be able to see into your garden no matter where they’re sat in the garden. Build one too high, and you’ll block out a lot of sunlight and be forced to sit in the shade for a lot longer periods of the day. That’s why it’s important to find a fence that allows you to be in control of exactly how high the fence is. For example, eComposite Products produces fences that are made out of 200mm boards. That means you can choose exactly how many boards high you want the fence rather than being forced to accept whatever height a normal fence panel comes in. These fences don’t only look stunning and modern, but they’re also made out of an eco-friendly material and are much easier to install than traditional large fence panels. They come in a wide range of colours too, so you’re sure to find one that suits your garden.

Cover on top as well as the sides

As well as the sides of your garden, it’s important to also have some cover over the top of your garden as well. If your neighbours have upstairs windows that overlook your garden, they’ll probably be able to get a good view of the whole garden. To prevent this, install something like a pergola or gazebo, which you can sit in when you want some more privacy. These structures are also ideal for enjoying your garden when it’s raining, or the sun is too hot, and you just need a bit of shade. If you want something that’s a less permanent feature in your garden, consider buying a large garden umbrella that you can move around the garden and put away when you’re not using it.

Get a good garden gate

Of course, it’s not only just your neighbours who might be able to look into your back garden. Depending on the layout of your house, you could, in fact, have problems with people walking on the street past the front of your house being able to look into your back garden. If this is the case, make sure you invest in a tall and solid gate. Consider getting someone to build you one out of solid wood rather than buying a pre-built metal one that has gaps in the rails. Then you’ll be sure it fits exactly in the space you’re wanting to fill.
