A day out at the races can be a thrilling experience. You’re well dressed, you’ve got a drink in your hand and an opportunity to win some cash betting on the horses. The questions is, where is the best place to go to watch the action given the quality of racing events around the United Kingdom? We’ll now give you the top two places to watch horse racing in the UK and when to visit.

Aintree

There’s no place like Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool to watch the action unfold. It’s the venue to be at in the second week of April to watch the ultimate horse race, the Grand National. The National is the most famous horse race in the world, and the winning parties etch their place in the history of the sport. It is the ultimate test of horse and jockey amid the 30 fences of the prestigious course.

Only the cream of the crop win the event, and even the best of charges can struggle with the race. Therefore, if you’re looking at today's horse racing betting odds on the ante-post for the Grand National you will see top contenders that will more often than not be the strongest candidates to win the event, including the 2021 winner Minella Times.

The atmosphere at Aintree is incredible on the day of the National, with 75,000 people in attendance. The buzz around the racecourse is palpable at the starting line, and there are few sounds in sport that can match the roar when the horses close in on the finish. It’s certainly one that should not be missed. Given Aintree’s proximity to Liverpool, there are ample hotels in the region and the city has plenty to offer tourists in terms of bars, restaurants and cultural intrigue.

Ascot

Ascot Racecourse offers the luxury and prestige of occasion for racegoers that attend over the course of the flat season. You must be dressed to the nines to attend the signature event of Royal Ascot that lands in the middle of the flat racing campaign. It features a number of quality races that everyone wants to win, including the Queen. It is not called Royal Ascot for no reason – the British Royal Family are often in attendance throughout the week of action. You may have to pick and choose which days you attend the week-long event given the price of tickets.

The Ascot Gold Cup, the Prince of Wales's Stakes, the St James's Palace Stakes and the Queen Anne Stakes are the leading events of the week and you will no doubt be trawling through the horse racing tips to find the best horses to back in those events. You will see the best of the flat racing crop compete for the top prizes in the sport.

The atmosphere is not quite as electric as the National and Cheltenham, but it still holds its own. There is also the added benefit of the warmer weather compared to its jumps counterparts. Ascot is based in Berkshire, which is not too far from London via train if you wish to stay in the capital. Transport links are extremely good, allowing people to flow in and out of the area with ease.

These two racecourses do not disappoint for different reasons. If you’re looking for a horse racing event to attend in 2022 and beyond, they should be your first port of call.
