Celebrities that are Involved in Football in the UK
With one of the most watched leagues in the sport and a domestic structure that is admired around the world, many celebrities have a strong interest in British football, whether that is as a fan or through ownership.
Here is a look at some of the most notable celebrities linked to football in the UK, and what exactly their interest is.
Liam and Noel Gallagher (Manchester City)
Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallaghers are huge Manchester City fans. They have been followers of the club from an early age, and their sets throughout their touring days often reflected their loyalty to the Blues.
Manchester City have had a lot of success in recent years, and they are on course for more glory this season, as they are the 4/7 favourites in the Premiership title odds for the 2023/24 campaign. The Gallagher brothers are very vocal on their social media accounts and in interviews following victories, and they have had a lot to shout about recently.
Oasis fans will be hoping the brothers can put their differences aside one day and form a reunion. If anything can unite them, it is their love for Manchester City Football Club.
Tom Brady (Birmingham City)
Former NFL star Tom Brady is considered the greatest quarterback in American Football history. He retired from playing in 2023 and to fill the void that has left, he has become involved in football ownership with Birmingham City.
Brady has become heavily involved in the Club, as he regularly travels across the Atlantic for home matches at St Andrew’s in Birmingham. He was also instrumental in persuading former Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney to accept the managerial role at the club back in October.
In his playing days in the National Football League (NFL), Brady won the Super Bowl seven times, a record in the league. He is likely to share some advice with the playing and management squad at Birmingham City to better their success on the pitch.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney (Wrexham)
As you may have seen in the Disney + documentary ‘Welcome To Wrexham’, Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been on quite a journey with Wrexham A.F.C since they took over as owners in 2020. They have taken the Welsh Club back into the Football League, with promotion coming in the 2022/23 campaign from the National League.
Not only have Reynolds and McElhenney invested in the playing squad at Wrexham, but they have also bought into the community by supporting projects across the city. They were rewarded for some of that work by Wrexham getting the opportunity to host the national team, Wales, in 2023 against Gibraltar at their Racecourse Ground. This marked the first time an international match has been played at the ground in 140 years.
After the success many celebrities have had involved in football clubs in the UK, expect to see more get involved in the future, with the likes of Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Robbie Williams all linked with takeovers.
