Wales sits proudly on the western front of the United Kingdom. Roughly 3.1 million people live here and the country is famous for so many reasons – some of them you might not be aware of. Home to the longest place name in the world

The place with the longest name in the world is “Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch” which is the name of a little town off the island of Anglesey.  This word roughly translates into “St Mary's Church in the Hollow of the White Hazel near a Rapid Whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio near the Red Cave”.

Home to plenty of sheep

The number of sheep in Wales outnumbers the Welsh residents dramatically with a staggering 10 million of them living in Wales’ mountainous valleys. There are so many sheep in Wales for a number of reasons but the most common one is that the wet Welsh climate is perfect for breeding animals like sheep.

Zipping around

If you’re after an adrenaline rush when you go to visit, then Penrhyn Slate Quarry which is located near Bethesda in North Wales is home to Zip World Velocity 2. This is the fastest zip line in the world and the longest in Europe which makes it a thrilling place to visit with friends and family.

Successful rugby team

If you’re into sports, then Wales has a lot to offer. The men’s football team recently reached its first World Cup since 1958 but it’s the rugby teams that take all the glory in Wales. They’ve won countless tournaments in their history and consistently rival the best teams in the world whenever they play. Watching a Welsh rugby match will make you feel proud no matter where you’re from, so if you visit the country, be sure to catch a game if possible.

More castles per square mile than in any other European country

If your life has been lacking castles, then Wales has plenty on offer for you to look at and explore. In fact, there are more castles per square mile compared to any European country, so you won’t have to look far to find one.
