The world’s fastest-growing marketplace has revealed the worst noises neighbours make in the UK after a rise in noise complaints around the nation.

When the marketplace polled the British public about the worst sounds heard from their neighbours, 86% cited ‘bad music choices’ as the worst offender, followed by ‘children playing’ and ‘loud lovemaking’, completing the top list of complaints.

The survey comes after the news that four in five (86%) UK councils have experienced a rise in noise complaints since lockdown started at the end of March.*

When OnBuy.com polled 2,875 members of the British public about the worst sounds heard from their neighbours, 86% cited ‘bad music choices’ as the worst offender, followed by ‘children playing’ and ‘loud lovemaking’, completing the top list of complaints.

Alongside the list of worst noises, the survey by OnBuy revealed that noisy neighbours have made nearly a fifth (18%) of people consider moving and one in five have had altercations about noise with their neighbours.

The research also revealed that 9% of respondents have been disturbed by ‘TikToks’, 7% by ‘singing’ and ‘snoring’ and 3% by ‘gaming’.

From household names to independent sellers, buyers can shop securely for products from a range of categories, such as electricals, baby and toddler, home and garden, and cars and automotive.

Cas Paton, founder and CEO of OnBuy said,

“Since the lockdown has started, most Brits have spent more time at home than ever before, and for many that’s meant being exposed to their neighbours more. The nice weather has meant people are spending time in their garden as well, so it's no surprise that noise complaints have increased.

“Based on that, we thought it would be interesting to see what noises annoy people the most. Some of the noises are thankfully not ones I’ve heard from my neighbours personally, but I’m confident we can all relate to a few on the list. Hopefully people will try to be more thoughtful as a result of the findings, and if not, maybe noise-cancelling headphones will do the trick!"
