An online delivery and removals platform is launching a new service where people can arrange to have their ex and their ex’s possessions moved out of their home following a breakup.

Destinations for the moving party can include their parent’s house, a friend’s house, the homewrecker’s property if applicable, or even Mars - in this instance the driver can take the moving party and their possessions as far away from the customer as possible.

A 15% ‘broken heart’ discount will also be available to any customer that seems particularly upset about the split, and will be given at the driver’s discretion.

The online platform, Shift, decided to launch the service after discovering that two fifths (41%) of 18-35-year olds in relationships are seriously considering breaking up with their partner following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

Shift surveyed 2,460 people in relationships and discovered that a third (32%) are seriously considering breaking up with their partner. The age group most likely to break up with their partner are those between the ages of 18 and 35 (41%), followed by those aged between 36 and 50 (29%).

When asked why they were considering breaking up, the most popular answer was that they could no longer tolerate their partner’s behaviours and bad habits (39%), followed by lockdown killing the spark in the bedroom (32%) and a lack of trust (25%). While one in ten (11%) stated that they had developed feelings for someone else.

‘Shift Your Ex’ will encompass Shift’s regular service where users can simply input their location and desired destination for a quick quote and easy move. This service will also have the added bonus of being able to request a special sign printed removals van to let everyone know that the ex-partner is being shifted out. Plus, Shift can also taxi the ex-partner along with their belongings, creating a swift and hassle-free solution for dealing with an awkward stage in any breakup.

Shift is a convenient delivery, removals and transport marketplace that allows consumers and businesses to move items using its growing UK-wide network of drivers (‘Shifters’). The company helps people move anything, anytime and anywhere around the UK - all at the touch of a button. Using its unique technology systems, the flexible platform works for anyone’s schedule, as there are thousands of Shifters available, ensuring the platform is convenient and cost-effective for customers.

Jacob Corlett, founder of Shift said:

“I think lockdown has been a real test for a lot of relationships and while it will have brought some couples closer than ever, it’s quite clear that it has also driven some to breaking point where moving out can’t come soon enough.

“We know how tricky it can be when arranging to move stuff out of a shared house or apartment after a breakup. This is why we decided to launch Shift Your Ex – a stress-free and light-hearted way of navigating what can be very awkward for everyone involved. When we were initially developing the idea, we had feedback that drop offs to the home of the person they cheated with would be desirable, one person even asked if we could drop their ex off to Mars, which we can’t unfortunately facilitate, but we can certainly take them as far away as possible!”
