We have all had a little more time in our homes than normal this year, and it’s definitely prompted a lot of people to think about making a more comfortable living space.  Although it can be fun flicking through magazines and getting your ideal living space together, there are a lot of things to consider.  We have put together a list to help you on your way to your dream home.

Put a Budget Plan in Place

We can all get ahead of ourselves when it comes to home improvements – and before we know it be hit with hefty bills.  That’s why it’s important you know what you can afford before you get started.  You should even get granular enough so that you have a certain amount dedicated to each room if you are planning on doing an overhaul of more than one part of your home.  You can even be as specific to plan out what you’d like to spend on each item.

Pull Inspiration from Lots of Sources

There are lots of places you can get ideas for your home improvements.  Pinterest is one that is generally overlooked, but you will find some great info.  Instagram is another good one.  Do a quick hashtag check, and you will be flooded with inspiration.  Make sure you have a good look around to get the best ideas possible to suit the requirements of your home. Happy Beds has some fantastic info on home improvement trends this year.

Create a Vision Board

A vision board is a fantastic way to visualise your space and what it will look like in actuality.  You can pin specific features items you like, and ideas so you don’t forget.  Not only will this help you paint a picture, it will also motivate you to get things done.  Here are some great vision board samples for you to check out.

Don’t Forget the Outside

Many people forget that it’s not just the inside of the home that requires sone tender, love and care – the outside can do with some attention too.  With our gardens also being used much more than before, they can’t be forgotten.  A lot of people have been investing heavily in hot tubs, marquees etc – to make the most of their outdoor space.

Choose Trusted Traders

If you aren’t a DIY person and think you might need some help putting your ideas into action – then make sure that you take the time to choose the right traders for the job.  Make sure when you are hiring someone that you try and go for a company that has been recommended by a friend.  You can also check them out on review sites such as Trust A Trader, or Google My Business to get an objective view of their service.

If you are planning on undertaking a lot of home improvements this year, then make sure you implement our planning ideas to make sure things run as smoothly as possible.
