Gardening Week takes place the week commencing 26th April

Get your green fingers at the ready this gardening week

Many Brits will be using this summer to reconnect with loved ones they have missed dearly over the past year, whilst soaking up some British sun in the comfort of their own garden. With many more garden visits planned than usual, it’s time to get your plot tip-top.

Recently, experts have suggested that the garden will become a crucial extension of the home, with the “lines blurring between inside and out” is noted as a growing trend for 2021*. Whether that’s creating a kitchen garden, a wellness space or acting as an extension to a playroom – we’re looking to extend our lives to our outdoor spaces.

Gardening Week takes place the week commencing 26th April, so there is no better time to get planting!

JTF Mega Discount Warehouse has pulled together some bargain products to get you started and teamed up with gardening experts at Horticulture.co.uk, the UK’s number one resource for garden growing tips, to offer their advice on what we should be planting this springtime.

Experts at Horticulture.co.uk said: “Spring is a busy time in UK gardens. As the weather begins to warm, and risk of frost begins to pass for most this month, sowing and planting will begin in earnest.

“We like to think that everything in a garden, as in your home, should be useful as well as beautiful. There are also plenty of perennial plants to divide and replant, or sow or plant new this month for summer beauty and for pollinators.

“As well as thinking about flowering plants, be sure to consider edible options. Plant potatoes if you have not done so already. A range of other cool season crops can also be direct sown as soon as the last frost date has passed in your area. Peas, broad beans, carrots, beetroot, cabbage family plants (brassicas), lettuce and radishes are just a few examples. There are also a wide range of perennial vegetables and herbs to consider.

“If you want to start growing your own this year, it is not too late to make a new raised bed, or prepare a new growing area for your garden. Consider using no-dig methods and building up layers of organic matter before topping with good quality, peat-free compost, and sowing straight away.”
