When the holiday season comes around it is easy to fall into the same habits that you’ve been doing every year; you have the same meals on the same date with the same family members, followed by maybe a pantomime or a trip the Santa’s grotto. While there is nothing wrong in enjoying these activities, traditions are staple of the Christmas period, you may be looking to spice things up this year and give your family something new to experience. With that in mind, here are five fun things to try while enjoying Christmas with the family.

Make your own decorations

If you don’t fancy taking on the hordes of shoppers for this year’s Christmas decorations then why not try your hand at making your own? From simple paper decorations to hand-crafted ornaments, you could try your hand at anything, and if you have a family member who is a great painter, or another who loves to use wood to create something spectacular, let them go wild and create whatever they want. You will all truly appreciate looking around your home and seeing your handiwork bring the Christmas spirit to life.

Brew up some festive treats

Christmas is, above all else, about enjoying the overwhelming amount of food and drink on offer, so now is the perfect time to get your family in the kitchen and cook up something wonderful. You obviously have the pleasure of making your Christmas dinners, but other than that you have gingerbread houses that need icing together, Christmas puddings that need moulding, and an indecent amount of chocolate that needs to be put to good use. Consequently, you are going to have to pair all this glorious food with some delicious homebrewed drinks, some suitable for the parents and some more suitable for the young ones, so let out your inner chef and get busy in the kitchen!

Make the most of the cold weather

It seems like a shame to keep our families locked in during Christmas time, so why not get out there and enjoy what chilly treats mother nature has to offer? Of course you must make sure you are ready to battle the elements on those more wet and weary days, but when the weather is fine there is nothing like getting some fresh air and taking in the beautiful sights of a cold and quiet environment. Take a morning walk, hike up a gentle hill, or play with your dog in your local park, anything that will get your family out and enjoying the outdoors, while also making extra room for all the food you’ve prepared at home.

Try out your local attractions

Many seasonal attractions pop up during the Christmas holiday, so you got to take advantage of these while you can. Christmas markets, the aforementioned pantomimes and grottos, or even a petting zoo where your little kids can meet “Santa’s very own reindeer” are all very solid choices to fill out your free time and provide entertainment for the whole family, so make sure to make the most of these attractions while they’re around.

Snuggle up in your lounge

If you’ve been going a little too hard this Christmas and need a little break from the holiday cheer, then no one can blame you for shutting out the rest of the world and enjoying a quiet night in with your loved ones. We all have that certain list of Christmas films that need to be watched every year, and the amount of Christmas TV specials is uncountable, or if you fancy something a bit more hands on then host a family game night, the choice is up to you this evening, so take it easy and remember that Christmas is the perfect excuse for coming together and enjoying some quality time with your family.
