If you want to achieve that perfect show home look – whether you are trying to sell real estate or simply want your own home to have that unmistakable show home style and finesse – you have to know that the first step you have to take is to declutter.

Clean up the place first – this allows you to see its potential, and you don't have a mess with which to contend. Then, of course, you want to decorate the home in your style too, so don't be afraid to add one or two items that show off your flair. But now it's time for the nitty-gritty – so without further ado, here's how to design and develop the perfect show home – starting from the kitchen to the bedroom and other rooms.

  • The dining and kitchen area

Most interior decorators and designers will tell you that the ideal layout is an open-plan layout. With this, you can easily create different designs and styles in a single room, blending the space together. But whether you have this or not, one key is to have a light-coloured palette for the room's base colour and then bring in the soft textures and accents.

You would want the space to be airy and light, not cloying – and if you can bring in natural lighting, do so. Jewel-based hues are the in thing right now, so if you want, you can use tones such as soft pink and bright teal to bring out the warmth of the room. Also, add a nice statement light to the dining area, and if you want something more luxurious, add stone and marble elements. Lastly, don't hesitate to use colours for accessories, upholstery, curtains, or wallpaper, as showhome interior design experts like Blocc suggest.

  • The living area or lounge

The importance of your living area furniture cannot be denied – so take care when you choose fabrics for your armchairs and sofas. If you want the living area or lounge to exude a timeless, classic look, go for classic fabrics. But to achieve the best look for the space, remember that the devil is in the details – so finish the room properly and choose your accessories and other small details carefully. For instance, cushions will always be welcome in the space, adding both texture and colour and making the space pop – so the more you 'scatter' those cushions, the better it looks!

Also, it's best to pay attention to the lighting because lighting can make the space relaxing and welcoming, not drab and dreary. For example, you can opt for a statement light on the ceiling, like a pendant or chandelier, and place other lamps, like table and standing lamps, around the space.

  • The bedroom

When designing the bedroom for a showhome, think of layers. Pair linens with throws, which can add a sumptuous and luxurious feel to the bedroom. It's also an inexpensive way to create drama and make a statement – and you can change it anytime you want!

In addition, think of adding an accent wall – it will make the room look more elegant, and you can go for wallpaper in a special pattern or a solid-coloured wall. Put your accent wall behind the bed, and voila! You can make a statement without much effort.
