Film wedding photography
The wedding trend that has garnered the most interest over the past year is film wedding photography, experiencing a 50% increase since last summer, peaking in May, when it hit a five-year high. Millennials and Gen Z are seeking out nostalgic, authentic vibes that simply cannot be matched with the latest kit. Boasting over 190,000 pins on Pinterest, it's clear couples are adoring that grainy, timeless reminiscent of their parents' wedding albums.
"Film photography is a reaction against our digital-first world," explains Liam Smith, custom wedding stationery expert at Aura Print, "Couples want that authentic, imperfect aesthetic that feels more like a family heirloom than a social media post. The grain, the subtle colour variations, the occasional light leak - these 'flaws' are what make each image feel genuinely special and unrepeatable."
Live wedding painting
Live wedding painting is also a hot topic, with a 46% increase in search interest from last summer. Although its presence is more limited in the world of pins, this trend has gained momentum relatively recently, with demand reportedly surging by over a fifth in the past year alone. From quintessential portraits, to abstract interpretations , there isn’t a more poetic way to capture tying the knot.
Botanical weddings
The third most sought out unique trend is botanical weddings, with a summer to summer interest increase of 46%. With close to 140,000 pins, from lush hanging centrepieces, to orangeries and greenhouses, it’s clear why people are opting for this nature infused enchantment as the theme for their big day.
Micro weddings
Micro weddings are also gaining significant attention, with search interest almost doubling (43%). Last year, a survey by Hitched found that three in five engaged couples reported considering a micro wedding. These whittled down celebrations give the perfect opportunity to have a more intimate celebration, whilst having the time and budget to provide guests more personalised experiences.
"Micro weddings are all about maximising meaning," explains Smit, "with smaller guest lists, couples can invest in higher-quality experiences, from premium catering to bespoke stationery that truly reflects their personalities. Every detail becomes more intentional and personal."
Wedding food bars
Wedding food bars are revolutionising reception dining, with search interest increasing by 40% since last summer. By ditching rigid seated dinners, couples are creating more dynamic celebrations where guests can mingle, customise their plates, and keep the energy flowing. From gourmet taco bars to decadent dessert stations, over 68,940 Pinterest posts capture these crowd-pleasing arrangements.
