Brits to prioritise 'me time' moments in 2023

OVER a quarter of the nation (28%) are focusing on health and wellness related goals for this year’s New Year’s resolution[i].

With 42% of Brits claiming focusing on exercise and getting a good night’s sleep is the key to improving their overall mental wellbeing.

The study, which was carried out by expert spa skincare brand, fenjal, saw 2,000 Brits1 polled to discover how they’re going to prioritise the all-important ‘me time’ throughout 2023 and what activities they partake in to increase their wellbeing.

Almost a quarter (22%) of the nation admitted that taking a hot bath helped them relax and enjoy that ‘me time’ moment.

With watching TV being crowned the number one activity to help unwind (37%), as listening to music (34%) came in closely behind and reading (31%) rounding off the top three.

As the UK is set out to focus more on health and wellness this year, the research revealed that spending time with loved ones (41%), listening to music (32%) and meditation (21%) were key activities to help improve overall mental wellbeing.

The brand – who celebrated its 60th anniversary last year - discovered that 13% claimed taking a long bath helped boost their mood.

The study also investigated the nation’s thoughts on whether they prefer baths to showers when taking a solitary moment to relax, with over half of respondents voting for a bath (52%) over the shower (32%) and 16% claiming they didn’t have a preference.

Interestingly, baths were the most popular among mature adults, with over half (58%) of 55–64-year-olds preferring a bath, in contrast to just a third (34%) opting for a shower.

On the other hand, the younger generation were much less likely to take a hot soak in the tub, with just 36% of 18–24-year-olds preferring baths to showers.

When quizzed on what elements create the ideal bath to relax in, having the perfect temperature was cited as the top priority with over a third (34%) of respondents. The ultimate soaking time (25%) came second, with having chilled music and candles lit coming in joint third (20%).

Joanne Ward, Commercial Manager for fenjal, said: “The research clearly shows that self-care isn’t just the expensive massages and shopping sprees we see on social media - but a broader concept that includes a wide array of everyday activities.

“The benefits of taking a hot soak in the bath are endless - from promoting better quality sleep to cleansing our minds and bodies - so it’s no surprise to us that this was one of the nation’s most relaxing activities!

“Fenjal has been helping Brits create blissful me moments for 60 years, and we look forward to continuing this in 2023 and beyond.”
