If you’re thinking about switching jobs in 2022, you might be wondering where to focus your attention. The pandemic changed the way we live and work and had a significant impact on the job market. Furlough, job losses and high demands on particular sectors forced many people to rethink their career choices.

Focusing your job search on the sectors that have the highest demand for workers is a great way to ensure you get a competitive salary. Some of these sectors will allow you to get started with no experience, so it could be an ideal option for those looking to change careers and boost their earnings. Read on to learn the top 5 jobs that are going to be in demand in 2022, according to CMD recruitment.

Healthcare

Many people chose to leave their roles in healthcare due to the stress of the pandemic, so the sector is now crying out for workers. The roles that are seeing the biggest shortages are in the care sector, with salaries for care assistants increasing by around 18% in the past year.

Listings for senior care assistant roles have increased by 89% from this time last year. The introduction of the vaccine mandate may have had something to do with this, but this mandate has now been dropped.

Legal

Law firms are reportedly offering incredibly high salaries to attract workers. Graduates in law are now earning an average of £50,000 per year, which is on par with investment banking roles and far higher than banking roles (£38,000).

If you have recently qualified, you could be in for a bumper starter salary, but don’t expect continued growth in this fashion. As universities get back to normal and people resume their studies, we can expect to see graduate salaries normalise again.

Customer Service

If you love helping people and have the patience to manage communications across multiple channels, you could find yourself a promising new career in customer service. Customer service salaries are up 27% from last year, which makes it the sector with the highest overall rise in salaries.

Many people left the sector due to the pressures of working from home and because they may have felt underappreciated during the pandemic. Companies with customer service roles to fill are now offering higher wages in the hope of attracting some fresh talent to the sector.

Retail

Another sector that has seen significant growth and an increase in demand for workers in the retail sector. With many shops now able to open back up for business, and individuals flocking through their doors for a real-life experience, workers are needed more than ever before.

Some roles will be more future-proof than others, as automation and self-checkouts could soon see far fewer staff on the shop floor. However, warehouse workers and merchandisers will always be in high demand as these roles won’t be going anywhere soon.

Hospitality

Perhaps the hardest hit during the pandemic, hospitality is back and is hoping to make up for lost time. With bars and restaurants open and at full capacity again, more and more people are thinking about getting out and enjoying some long overdue socialising.

Many people left the sector as they were not eligible for furlough, and the Brexit deadline meant that many EU workers returned to their own countries. The industry has now been forced to increase salaries to tempt people back into the sector. Alongside front of house roles, kitchen staff are also in high demand. Average salaries have increased by 43% year on year for these essential team members.
