Your bedroom should be the most comfortable room in your house, but tight budgets and size constraints can be a challenge.

What with winter and the cost-of-living crisis, getting the most out of your space and making it feel like a cosy escape has never been more important, which is why many homeowners are having to get creative with their interior design choices to make their bedrooms feel warm and welcoming.

But where to start? What are the simplest ways to turn a small bedroom into a warm and inviting space?

Bed Expert, Karen Yu from Zinus UK has spent years working with the most talented designers and engineers across the world and shares her top tips to make any space feel cosy this winter.

“People across the UK are looking for ways to get the most out of their spaces in their homes. Bedrooms in particular can have a significant influence on our health and well-being.

"A badly designed bedroom can have a huge impact on the quality of sleep and mood which can have a knock-on effect on our day-to-day lives.

“Making a room feel cosy doesn’t have to break the bank. Sometimes the smallest changes can have the biggest impact. There are many budget-friendly ways that can help transform a room.”

  1. Use warm, inviting colours

Choosing a colour palette that is warm and inviting can help to make a small bedroom feel cosy. Consider using shades of red, orange, and yellow, as these colours are associated with warmth and comfort.

  1. Use plenty of soft comfortable textures

In a small bedroom, textures can play a big role in creating a cosy atmosphere. Consider using plush rugs, soft blankets, and comfortable pillows to add texture to the space.

  1. Increase natural light

Natural light can make a small space feel larger and more open, which can in turn make it feel cosier. Where possible, try to position your bed near a window to allow for plenty of natural light during the day.

  1. Use cosy bedding

Cosy bedding is an essential component of a cosy small bedroom. Choose high-quality sheets, blankets, and comforters in soft, comfortable fabrics to create an inviting and comfortable bed.

  1. Add a touch of greenery

Plants can add life and warmth to a small bedroom, making it feel more inviting. Choose low-maintenance plants that are easy to care for, such as succulents or air plants.

  1. Use soft lighting

Soft, warm lighting can help to create a cosy atmosphere in a small bedroom. Consider using table lamps, floor lamps, or string lights to add a warm, inviting glow to the space.

  1. Keep the space clutter-free

A cluttered space can feel cramped and overwhelming, which can make a small bedroom feel less cosy. Make a conscious effort to keep the space clutter-free by regularly decluttering and organizing. This will help to create a sense of calm and tranquillity in the space.
